Women's Soccer routs Life 5-0

Portsmouth, Ohio – Shawnee State women's soccer used a hat trick from Jenny Campbell (SR/Chillicothe, Ohio) to rout Life University in Mid-South Conference play on Wednesday, 5-0.

The first half would see Shawnee State knock on the door for most of the half as SSU controlled possession. After several near misses, Shawnee State would open the scoring in the 29th minute. Olivia Ball (SO/Greenup, Kentucky) would lift a free kick into the box, and Jenny Campbell would put a header on target, scrambling it past Running Eagles' goalkeeper Pien van Kampen. SSU would continue to pressure for the remainder of the half, with Maddie Woodard (SR/Camden, Ohio) hitting the post late, but the score would be 1-0 at halftime.

The second half would settle into a physical match. Shawnee State would continue to pressure, and their pressure would pay off in the 70th minute as Life's Wilma Moberg would commit a handball penalty to give SSU a spot kick. Jenny Campbell would finish in the upper left corner to make the score 2-0.

The penalty would open the floodgates for Shawnee State as the Bears would score three late goals to seal the match. Maddie Woodard would get her first goal in the 81st minute off a Sydney Payne pass, and would add a second goal less than 30 seconds later to double the SSU lead at 4-0. Jenny Campbell would then complete her hat trick in the 90th minute to put the icing on the cake and give SSU the 5-0 win.

The win improves Shawnee State's record to 8-2-1 on the year, and the Bears pick up their first Mid-South Conference win to move to 1-1-0 in the league. Life falls to 4-6-1, and 1-1-0 in the league.

Shawnee State women's soccer are back in action on Saturday, October 7 when they face off against (RV) Georgetown. Kickoff is set for 2:00pm.
