CHILLICOTHE, Ohio – Baseball scored in five of its seven innings against Ohio-Chillicothe, including an 11-run third inning to roll the Hilltoppers, 25-1. The Bears racked up 24 hits in the victory, while allowing just four hits to their counterparts.
Ryan Queener and Dan Katayama each finished the game with three hits, including one home run. Katayama's home run was his second of the season, while Queener's long ball was the first of his Shawnee State career. Katayama scored three runs and drove in three more in the win. Queener drove in four runs, while scoring a pair in Wednesday's win. Blake Maines came up a home run short of the cycle as he drove in three runs and scored four during his 3-for-6 night at the plate.
Mason Wisner, Jake Cain, Brandon Blackwelder, and Devon Palmer each had a pair of hits in the contest. Wisner matched Queener with a game-high four RBI. He also scored two runs. Cain drove in three and scored two more. Also of note, freshmen Alex Shears and Palmer each picked up the first hits of their collegiate careers.
Taylor Smith got the win on the mound as he allowed just one hit over his four innings of work. Steve Easterling, Brandon Bonar and Nolan Potter then finished up the game in relief of Smith. The Bears staff recorded five strikeouts in the contest.
The Bears will be back on the road this weekend as they travel to the University of the Cumberlands for another three-game MSC series.
