PORTSMOUTH - Shawnee State University Head Baseball Coach Ted Tom is pleased to announce Monday, June 23rd as the date for the 7th Annual Spring Prospect Showcase. The showcase will be held at historic Branch Rickey Park in Portsmouth, Ohio and will be conducted by the SSU coaching staff directly. Camp will consist of two sessions to better allow our coaching staff to evaluate players. Cost for the camp is $60. This showcase is open to all players ages 15-21. The showcase will include a professional style workout and an introduction to the program at Shawnee State University, as well as a brief tour of campus.
Camps at Shawnee State are unique in that we actively recruit players to our varsity-only program directly from these workouts. We have signed players out of our prospect camps every single year we have been on staff and currently, we have six players on the active roster that have attended prospect camps at Shawnee State in the past. Additionally, we feel it is extraordinarily important that players interested in Shawnee State or college baseball in general use this format not only to show us what you have to offer athletically, but to witness how the coaching staff at Shawnee State operates up close. This is a fantastic opportunity to try us out as much as we are trying you out. With all the camps and showcases available, our showcases are unique in that we get to know each player individually and are able to evaluate an actual player, not a number; all the while giving each player a chance to see if Shawnee State is a great fit.
Shawnee State Baseball Youth Baseball Camp (June 24-26)
Additionally, the Shawnee State University Baseball is pleased to announce June 24-26 as the dates for Shawnee State University Youth Baseball Camp. Camp will run each morning at Branch Rickey Park in Portsmouth, Ohio from 9am until noon, featuring defensive instruction for infield and outfield play, offensive instruction, and pitching and catching. Coach Tom and the Bears have played for conference championships in three of the past four seasons and have won 129 games in the past four seasons. This year, they eclipsed the 30 win mark for the third time in four years and the eighth time in school history.
