PORTSMOUTH – Men's basketball has announced the signing of Andrew Payne. Payne comes to Shawnee State from Danville High School. Payne is the Bears' second signing for the upcoming 2014-15 season. The newest recruit is 6-foot-4 and played forward in high school.
At Danville High School, Payne was a member of the district championship team during his junior season as that squad went 21-5 during that season. The Danville, Ohio native came back the following season and averaged 21.8 points per game in addition to eight rebounds and 1.5 assists. Payne finished his career with 1,098 career points. Payne also served as team captain during that senior campaign.
In addition to earning three letters on the basketball court, Payne also lettered four times in baseball and three times in football. Off the court, Payne was a member of Danville's National Honor Society.
Payne is the son of Susan and Dennis Payne. He has two older siblings, Kelly, who attends Ashland University and Tracy, who attends Walsh University. While at Shawnee State, Payne plans on majoring in Exercise Science.
