PORTSMOUTH, Ohio (Baseball) – Shawnee State sophomore Derek Moore (SO/Wheelersburg, Ohio) has been selected as an NAIA Preseason All-American the national office announced Wednesday evening.
Moore was selected among 16 others across the nation for the honor, and is one of just two sophomores in the group. The squad was selected by the NAIA-Baseball Coaches Association All-America Committee.
A Wheelersburg, Ohio, native, Moore made waves last season as the top starter on a Shawnee State squad which finished 33-26 in 2014. The right-hander went 10-2 in 15 appearances, en route to being named the Mid-South Conference Pitcher and Freshman of the Year – both firsts in program history.
Moore catapulted those honors into a slot as a First Team All-American at the conclusion of the season. He broke the school record for earned run average in a season at 1.50, walks per nine innings at 1.03, shutouts with three and innings pitched with 114.0.
The then-freshman was named MSC Pitcher of the Week four times, and was named First Team All-MSC for his efforts.
Moore and the Bears kick off the 2015 campaign in February.
