PORTSMOUTH, Ohio (Men's Basketball) – Sean Elliott (JR/Canal Winchester, Ohio) tabbed a game-high 25 points, and Andrew Bendolph (SR/Portsmouth, Ohio) added 17, as the Shawnee State men's basketball team used a first half advantage to earn a 76-70 victory over Alice Lloyd College on Sunday afternoon.
The Bears shot 55.3 percent in the contest, forcing 19 turnovers on nine steals in the game. Bendolph tabbed a game-high four steals. Shawnee State added 25 rebounds in the contest, outrebounding the Eagles by five.
SSU headed into the locker room with a six point advantage, shooting 59.3 percent in the opening half. The Eagles surged back to lead by as many as seven in the second period.
Elliott was 8-of-11 from the field, including nailing 5-of-7 from the field. SSU ended the game 8-of-19 from three-point land.
In perhaps there best performance of the season from the free-throw line, Shawnee State went 16-for-19 from the charity stripe – all 19 attempts coming in the second half.
Three Bears finished the contest in double-figures scoring, as Jorian Hudson (JR/Cincinnati, Ohio) collected 15 to add on to Elliott and Bendolph. Frederick Moore (FR/Cincinnati, Ohio) added six points and Ethan Moffatt (JR/Somerville, Tenn.) tacked on five. Hudson finished the game with a team-leading five caroms.
Shawnee State is back in action versus non-conference rival University of Rio Grande on Wednesday at Frank & Janis Waller Gymnasium. Action is set to begin at 8 p.m. following the completion of the women's contest.
