PORTSMOUTH, Ohio (Baseball) – The Shawnee State University Baseball program, led by head coach Chris Moore, has set the weekend dates of October 3 and October 9-10 as the schedule for the second annual Small School Showcase Series, which will be held at Branch Rickey Park.
The entire camp, which will be split up into five sessions over the three aforementioned dates, is run by the coaching staff directly. The Shawnee State baseball program takes great pride in providing the highest quality experience at the lowest possible cost. Every camper is given a great opportunity to showcase their skills as well as learn a great deal about Shawnee State and the recruiting process.
Overall, the Shawnee State baseball program and its coaches personally take the responsibility of each camper and his family walking away a fan of our university in a very serious manner. This will be a showcase of the highest quality.
As far as the camp details are concerned, every single non-D1 school in Ohio, Kentucky, Indiana, West Virginia, and Michigan will be invited as well as schools that show interest in attending the Small School Showcase Series. The Shawnee State baseball program is always open to additional baseball programs who want to attend and they will be welcome to make the trip to Branch Rickey Park to participate.
With the event exceeding expectations last year, the Shawnee State baseball program has decided to break the Small School Showcase Series into five sessions over the course of three separate dates.
There will be two sessions on Saturday, October 3rd, with the first beginning at 10 a.m. and the second beginning at 3 p.m. The next weekend, there will be a single evening session on Friday, October 9th beginning at 6 p.m. followed by two sessions to close out the Small School Showcase on Saturday, October 10th with the latter pair of sessions also commencing at 10 a.m. and 3 p.m.
Each session in the series will consist of a pro-style workout, which will include 60 yd dash times, defensive evaluations, offensive evaluations, and pitching evaluations. The Shawnee State coaching staff will cap each session at 40 players to ensure each player is properly analyzed and has an opportunity to communicate with the Shawnee State coaching staff.
This year, the Shawnee State baseball program is adding the feature of disseminating all objective information to all the non-D1 coaches who were invited to the Small School Showcase Series but were not able to attend. The goal, as always, is for the Shawnee State coaching staff to provide as much exposure as they possibly can to the players who decide they want to attend the camp.
Overall, the Shawnee State University baseball program uses camps as a legitimate recruiting tool to gauge the success of baseball players in the program, with 20 of the 44 student-athletes on our current roster having attempted camps in the past.
The cost to attend one session of camp is $45, with any additional session thereafter costing $30. It is not necessary to attend more than one session.
