UPDATE: The camps set for Saturday, Nov. 21 and Sunday, Nov. 22 have been canceled. The enxt dates of the Small School Showcase Series will take place on Monday, Dec. 21 and Tuesday, Dec. 22.
PORTSMOUTH, Ohio (Baseball) – Shawnee State University head baseball coach Chris Moore is happy to announce the continuance of the second annual Small School Showcase Series here on campus at Shawnee State.
Dates and times for the Small School Showcase Series are:
- Saturday November 21st 7pm and 9pm (limited to 20 players per session)
- Sunday November 22nd 9am and 1pm (limited to 40 players per session)
- Monday December 21st 1pm and 5pm (limited to 30 players per session)
- Tuesday December 22nd 1pm and 5pm (limited to 30 players each session)
- Saturday January 9th 5pm and 7pm (limited to 20 players per session)
- Sunday January 10th 1pm and 4pm (limited to 30 players per session)
It is the goal of the Small School Showcase Series to provide the most comprehensive exposure possible to players at a reasonable and rational price. In order to do this, every single coach in the region (Ohio, Kentucky, West Virginia, and Michigan) is invited to attend.
Each session in the series will consist of a pro-style workout including 60-yard dash time, defensive evaluation, offensive evaluation, and pitching evaluation. The number of each session's players is limited to ensure each player is properly evaluated and has an opportunity to communicate with coaches.
Due to its enormous popularity during the Fall Showcase Series, the showcase will continue to video campers and offer to send those videos out to schools in which they are interested. Please see the checklist of schools and the pricing list for videos as you register. This year, the feature of disseminating all objective information to all coaches who were invited to the camp but were not able to attend will be added. The goal, as always, is to provide as much exposure as possible to the players who decide they want to attend our camp.
Additionally, Shawnee State University Baseball uses camps as a legitimate recruiting tool. Of the 41 players on the current roster, 18 attended camps in the past. SSU has also signed two players from the Fall Showcase Series already for next year. Rest assured, with no JV program, these players were identified at camp and brought in to make an immediate impact.
This camp is run by the SSU coaching staff directly. The staff takes great pride in providing the highest quality experience at the lowest possible cost. Everyone is given a great opportunity to showcase their skills as well as learn a great deal about Shawnee State and the recruiting process.
"I personally take seriously the responsibility of each camper and his family walking away a fan of our university," Moore said. "There will be larger showcases with bigger names, but this will be a showcase of the highest quality."
Cost to attend one session of camp is $45. Camp will be held inside the James A. Rhodes Athletic Center at Shawnee State University.
