PORTSMOUTH, Ohio (Cross Country) – A combined five runners from the Shawnee State men's and women's cross country programs – Haley Lykins (JR/Shelby, Ohio), Will Doering (SR/Grove City, Ohio), Megan Ashton (JR/Proctorville, Ohio), Drew Roffe (JR/Wheelersburg, Ohio), and Logan Rowe (JR/Proctorville, Ohio) – were named to the NAIA Scholar-Athlete team, the national office announced on Saturday. National honors were awarded to each student-athlete of junior status who obtained a grade-point-average of at least 3.5 or better.
Lykins, who is a junior, led the pack with a perfect 4.0 GPA while majoring in Biomedical Sciences as well as Athletic Training. Doering would be next with a 3.89 GPA as the senior obtained the mark as a Psychology major.
Ashton followed the duo up with a 3.79 mark as a Nursing major, while Roffe obtained a 3.64 GPA as a double major in Accounting and Marketing while also minoring in Political Science. Rowe would round out the group's efforts with a 3.5 GPA as a Physical Therapist Assistant.
With their GPA's, all five runners have continued to improve on their outstanding careers as student-athletes. Doering caps off his running career by being named to the Mid-South Conference All-Academic list three times as well as obtaining NAIA Scholar-Athlete honors twice – winning both honors in every season eligible.
Ashton, Lykins and Roffe have each been named to the Academic All-Mid-South list twice and made the NAIA Scholar-Athlete list in their first season eligible for the award as juniors. Rowe, another junior, earned Academic All-Mid-South and NAIA Scholar-Athlete honors for the first time this season.
