EMERSON, Ga. (Baseball) – Shawnee State lost both games of the doubleheader Saturday afternoon, falling to Judson College, 4-1, and Mount Mercy by a score of 1-0 at LakePoint Complex.
Brandon Reaman (JR/Dayton, Ohio) tallied the only run for the Bears on Saturday afternoon, finishing the first game with one hit in four at-bats. Shawnee State had a strong pitching performance in the second game from Mike Watson (SO/Niles, Ohio), going five innings strong and allowing only one hit.
Game 1 vs. Judson University
Shawnee opened up the scoring in the first game of the doubleheader thanks to Reaman's single to left field, scoring Zachariah Freenam. Judson was able to answer and scored one run in the second, third and fourth innings, to take a lead of 3-1.
The Bears tried to rally late, but were only able to muster one hit through the final three frames. Clay Tefft (SO/Wauseon, Ohio) was handed the loss, going four innings allowing only three runs, as Shawnee State was on the losing end of a 4-1 score line.
Game 2 vs. Mount Mercy
Game two of the double header featured a fierce pitching duel between the Bears and Mount Mercy. The first three innings of this game were hit-less from the Mustange, while SSU got just one hit, a single from Connor Kindred (FR/Elizabethtown, Ky.). Mount Mercy would not get its first hit until the fourth.
In the fifth inning, Matt Dvorscak (SO/Whiting, Ind.) tallied the second hit for the Bears, with a single down the left-field line. Reaman doubled in the sixth to put SSU in a position to rally, but they fell short, as Mount Mercy scored in the final frame, leading them to a 1-0 victory over Shawnee State.
Watson finished the game with six strikeouts through five innings. The Bears record currently stands at 0-7 early in the season.
Shawnee State will resume play this Saturday, Feb. 20th, in a doubleheader against Union College. The first game of the two is scheduled to start at 1:00 p.m. at Jerry Carey Stadium.
