CHILLICOTHE, Ohio (Baseball) – Shawnee State received heavy offensive contributions in back-to-back wins against Cincinnati Clermont and Ohio-Chillicothe on Tuesday at VA Memorial Stadium.
JT Boggs (SO/South Shore, Ky.) finishes game one of the double-header with three RBIs on two hits. The second game was lead offensively by Chase Thurber (FR/Andover, Ohio) who claimed two RBIs. The Bears totaled 24 runs at the end of the day.
GAME 1 Ohio-Chillicothe
Brandon Reaman (JR/Dayton, Ohio) tripled in the first inning pushing across the first run of the contest. Shortly after, Conner Wilson (SR/San Diego, Calif.) hit a two-RBI double to cap-off a three-run first inning for the Bears. Boggs accounted for a run in the third on a fielder's choice, as the Bears posted a four-run third inning.
Ohio Chillicothe was held scoreless until they rallied in the fifth inning, scoring three runs. Shawnee State answered quickly, scoring a total of nine runs in the top of the seventh. The runs came from multiple Bears including Boggs with two RBIs and Austin Wells (SO/Grayson, Ky.) with a pinch-hit two-RBI double. SSU won by a final score of 16-6.
GAME 2 Cincinnati Clermont
In the second contest of the double-header the Bears were able to achieve early success. Reaman singled to open up the scoring in the first game, which was followed by a Mitchell Lendenski (SR/Loveland, Ohio) RBI triple and a Wilson RBI single. SSU scored six runs in their half of the opening frame. Cincinnati Clermont scored one run in the third, but Shawnee State answered as Wilson crossed the plate for the Bears
Cincinnati Clermont was able to score their final run of the game in the fourth. Matt Dvorscak (SO/Whiting, Ind.) had an RBI single in the bottom of the fifth, scoring Andrew Vanthournout (SO/Bowling Green, Ky.). A strong start from Josh Eplin (JR/Streator, Ill.) and relief pitching from Derek Moore (JR/Wheelersburg, Ohio) and Brandon Bonar (SR/Chillicothe, Ohio) led the Bears to an 8-2 victory.
In game two Eplin went four innings, earning one run on just three hits and striking out one. Dylan Lyster (FR/Freeport, Texas) claimed his first win of the season in game one
The Bears return to action Friday in a double-header against Cumberland University. Game one is expected to start around 12 p.m. at Ernest L. Stockton Field-Woody Hunt Stadium.
