ATHENS, Ohio (Men's Track & Field) – Nick McAfee (JR/Georgetown, Ohio) notched a fourth place finish in the 3,000 meter steeplechase and finished 10th in the 800 meter run to pace the Shawnee State men's track & Field team at the All-Ohio Track & Field Championships at Goldsberry Track on Friday and Saturday.
McAfee paced a trio of Bears in the steeplechase, finishing with a time of 9:51.76, just 21 seconds behind Daniel Zupan of Akron, who would win the event. Parker Blain (SO/Marietta, Ohio) came in next for the Bears at 10:24.61 for a seventh place finish, while Ryan Steward added a time of 10:47.27 to finish in eighth.
In the 800, McAfee again came in with a top 10 finish, concluding the race in 2:02.02, good enough for 10th. AJ Barber (SO/Galena, Ohio) was next for the Bears at 2:04.02 in 14th, while Noah Bullock (FR/Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio) (18th) and Andrew Polanco (SO/Woodbridge, N.J.) (23rd) came in at 2:11.57.
Finally, a trio of SSU runners competed in the 1,500 meter run, as Ethan Richter (SO/Chillicothe, Ohio) led the way at 4:18.85, good enough for 12th. Cody Redman (SO/Circleville, Ohio) came in next, finishing 16th with a time of 4:21.78, while Zach Werne (JR/Newburgh, Ind.) finished in 21st at 4:58.13.
In addition to the weekend, David Jaeger (FR/Liberty Township, Ohio) competed in the Athens Ohio Half Marathon, qualifying with an NAIA "B Standard" time of 1:14:05.
The Bears return to action for a one-day meet at the West Virginia Wesleyan Jasmine Claggett Memorial on Friday in Buckhannon, W.Va.
