PORTSMOUTH, Ohio (Women's Track & Field) – Shawnee State junior Megan Ashton (JR/Proctorville, Ohio) has been named the Mid-South Conference Track Athlete of the Week after her performance at the Jesse Owens Track Classic, conference officials announce Monday.
The Proctorville, Ohio native notched a sixth place finish in the 3,000 meter steeplechase in her lone event of the weekend, notching a time of 10:59.84 among a field of mostly NCAA Division I athletes.
The time was good enough for an NAIA "A" Standard, qualifying the junior for the NAIA National Championships later this year. Megan also qualified with a "B" Standard in the 5,000 meter run earlier this year at the Charlotte 49er Classic.
This is the first weekly award for Ashton this season, and the second time she has received the award during her three-year career.
