WILLIAMSBURG, Ky. (Women's Track & Field) – Sarah Biehl (SR/Lowell, Ohio) recorded one of the best complete days in Shawnee State women's track & field history, winning three events and notching a second place finish in another to lead the Bears to their best finish at the Mid-South Conference Championships in program history, as SSU finished third of eight teams at James H. Taylor II Stadium.
Biehl began the weekend with a second place finish in the 800 meter run, notching a time of 2:15.89 – good enough for an NAIA "B" Standard. Brooke Smith (FR/Wheelersburg, Ohio) added a top five finish in the event as well, completing the run in 2:27.37 to finish fifth. Biehl was just getting started.
The senior added a first place finish in the 1,500 meter run with a time of 4:39.58. Smith, Katie Saling (FR/Caldwell, Ohio) and Alyssa Taylor (FR/Georgetown, Ohio) added third, fourth and fifth place finishes in the race, respectively. Biehl added another victory in the 5,000 meter run, completing the race in 17:44.58. She was followed by Anna Havranek (SO/Sugarcreek, Ohio) in second, Saling in fourth and Taylor in fifth.
Biehl's final victory came in the 10,000 meter run, as she finished in 40:30.90, nearly 40 seconds ahead of the field. The Bears swept the top three in the race, as Havranek finished in second at 41:09.24 and Kate Spencer (SO/Glouster, Ohio) finished in third at 41:21.28.
Megan Ashton (JR/Proctorville, Ohio) provided another victory for the Bears in the 3,000 meter steeplechase, closing the race in a time of 11:47.09. Spencer and Jenna Liston (FR/Circleville, Ohio) rounded out the top three in the event to give SSU a clean sweep on the medal stand.
In their final victory of the day, the combination of Smith, Saling, Ashton and Shaniah Begley (FR/McDermott, Ohio) took first in the 4x800 meter relay with a time of 9:50.09.
A litany of SSU runners' seasons continue as Biehl, Ashton, Havranek and the 4x800 team have each qualified for the NAIA National Championships in Gulf Shores, Ala. The final meet of the season is set for May 26-28.
