This year, Shawnee State University will be celebrating its 30-year anniversary. Out of the past 30 years, SSU has sponsored a men's golf team for 27 of those years, but never a women's golf team, until now.
Last year, Shawnee State announced its Athletics Expansion plan, which included an addition of four new athletic teams, women's golf, men's tennis, and men and women's indoor track.
"Athletics is a vital part of campus life that impacts students' satisfaction," said SSU President Rick Kurtz. "Expanding our teams will provide more opportunities to attract and retain our students, as well as create more scholarships and a chance to continue to compete in their chosen sport beyond high school."
After discussions, recruitment and preparation, Shawnee State is pleased to introduce six new student-athletes who will make up the inaugural SSU women's golf team for the fall season. They will play their first-ever collegiate golf match this weekend at the Indiana University-East Tee Off Classic.
Who are these new student-athletes making Shawnee State history?
