Wilmington, Ohio - Shawnee State men's and women's cross country were in action on Friday afternoon, as the teams competed at the Wilmington College Invitational. The men took home first place, while the women grabbed second place overall.
The men's team edged out rival Rio Grande to finish first overall, winning by .39 seconds over the Red Storm. Seth Farmer (SO/Waverly, Ohio) was the best finisher for Shawnee State's men on the day, placing sixth with a time of 25:17.6. Parker Blain (JR/Marietta, Ohio) also had a strong day, finishing with a time of 25:26.9. David Jaeger (SO/Liberty Township, Ohio) and Adrian Ross (SR/Chillicothe, Ohio) finished 18th and 19th to aid the Bears on to the win.
The women were led by Anna Havranek (JR/Sugarcreek, Ohio), who placed third overall with a time of 17:57.0. Megan Ashton (SR/Proctorville, Ohio) got fourth place with a time of 18:01.4, and Alyssa Taylor (SO/Georgetown, Ohio)'s 18:49.4 time was good for 19th. The Bears only trailed behind champions and NCAA-I member Wright State by just over two seconds.
With the victory, the men take home their second championship of the season. SSU's men also placed first at the Mid-South Conference Preview. The women notched their second straight second place finish, finishing second at the Greater Louisville Classic.
Both teams are next in action on Saturday, October 22nd when they travel to Grand Rapids, Michigan to participate in the Greal Lakes Invitational.
