Portsmouth, Ohio – Shawnee State cross country swept the Mid-South Conference Runner of the Week awards, with Anna Havranek (JR/Sugarcreek, Ohio) winning her fourth of the season and Seth Farmer (SO/Waverly, Ohio) taking home the first award of his career.
Anna finished third in the Wilmington College Invitational, with a time of 17:57.0 in the 5k race. Her time helped Shawnee State to finish second out of 38 teams, only behind NCAA-I member institution Wright State. The award is the fourth of the season for Anna, and she has taken home four of the seven awards thus far this season.
Seth Farmer would receive the award for the men after finishing in sixth place with a time of 25:17.6. Shawnee State would win the meet behind Farmer's effort, narrowly edging rivals Rio Grande by .39 seconds. The award is the first for Farmer, both this season and in his career, and is the second men's award won by Shawnee State. Adrian Ross (SR/Chillicothe, Ohio) won the award for his first place finish in the Mid-South Conference Preview to start the season.
The cross country program would also see alumni Sarah Biehl finish third at the Columbus Half Marathon on Saturday. Biehl, now an assistant coach for the Bears, finished with a time of 1:17:54, taking third out of 6,367 female runners, and falling only 2:54 short of qualifying for US Olympic Trials for the 2020 Olympics. A Lowell, Ohio native, Biehl graduated from Shawnee State in 2016.
Cross country is back in action on Saturday, October 22nd when both teams travel to Grand Rapids, Michigan to compete in the Great Lakes Invitational.
