Portsmouth, Ohio – Michaela Garner (SO/Heath, Ohio) was named the Mid-South Women's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week on Monday morning.
Garner, a 5-8 goalkeeper from Heath, Ohio, was pivotal for the Bears in their two victories this week. Garner had eight saves against Union (Ky.) to preserve a 1-0 lead, giving the Bears their third straight win. At Campbellsville on Saturday, Garner came up huge again, getting six saves to preserve the clean sheet as Jenny Campbell (JR/Chillicothe, Ohio) would score a goal in both halves to lead Shawnee State to victory.
The Bears are enjoying a four game winning streak, with Garner having kept a clean sheet in three of the four and allowing only two goals over the four games. Shawnee State is also on a three game conference winning streak, having climbed to sole possession of fourth place after defeating Campbellsville on Saturday.
The Bears are next in action on Wednesday, October 19th when they welcome rivals Rio Grande to Portsmouth for Senior Day. Kickoff is scheduled for 2:00pm.
