Portsmouth, Ohio - Shawnee State men's soccer completed their home schedule on Wednesday evening, drawing with Georgetown 2-2 in Mid-South Conference action.
It was the Bears who jumped out to the lead early when Caspar Nolte (SO/Germantown, Ohio) fired home from 18 yards after a lengthy run in the 20th minute. Georgetown would hit back five minutes later when Kyle Settle would head past Brandon Pfeiffer (JR/Canal Winchester, Ohio) off a Nick Gregory cross off the break. Both teams would have chances to score before taking a 1-1 tie to half.
The second half would be a physical struggle, as nine yellow cards were shown, including overtime. Bryce Romanello (FR/Lucasville, Ohio) would put Shawnee State back in front, heading home off a Skylar Shonkwiler (FR/Fairborn, Ohio) cross in the 65th minute. SSU would hold the lead until the 80th minute, when Nick Gregory would get a goal of his own after rounding Pfeiifer.
The two overtime periods would be end to end as both teams had opportunities to win the game. Martyn Sayer (SR/Liverpool, England) had the best chance,firing a dipping shot from the edge of the box that forced a brilliant Patrick Schwarz save. Brandon Pfeiffer would save the draw for the Bears by blocking a Georgetown effort on goal.
Caspar Nolte was honored as the Toro Loco Man of the Match. The sophomore from Germantown, Ohio scored SSU's first goal and was dangerous down the right flank the entire evening.
With the draw, Shawnee State moves to 5-10-1 on the season, and 2-3-1 in the Mid-South Conference. Georgetown are now 4-8-4, and are 1-3-2 in the conference. The draw sees Shawnee State remain in fifth place, and would face Cumberlands in the conference tournament as results stand.
Shawnee State are next in action on Saturday, October 29th when they travel to Columbia, Kentucky to take on Lindsey Wilson. Kickoff is set for 8:00pm.
