Portsmouth, Ohio – Both Shawnee State cross country teams jumped into the NAIA Coaches' Poll Top 10 on Wednesday, with the men and women both being ranked 10th.
Men's cross country climbed 14 spots, from 24th to 10th, and have run twice since the last poll on October 12th. They finished in first place on October 14th at Wilmington College, and finished second this past weekend at the NAIA Great Lakes Challenge. Seth Farmer (SO/Waverly, Ohio) finished in the top 10 in both races, and won the Mid-South Conference Runner of the Week award for his performance at Wilmington.
Women's cross country climbed one spot to 10th in this week's poll. The women finished second at both Wilmington College and the Great Lakes Challenge. Anna Havranek (JR/Sugarcreek, Ohio) would lead the team at Wilmington, taking third and winning MSC Runner of the Week honors, and would be followed by Megan Ashton (SR/Proctorville, Ohio) at Great Lakes, who finished fourth and would also take home Runner of the Week.
Both teams have now improved on their standings at the start of the season. SSU's women were ranked 13th in the preseason poll, and the men started the season 20th. The 10th spot is both teams' highest rankings thus far in 2016.
Both teams are back in action on Saturday, November 5th when they both travel to Bowling Green, Kentucky to compete in the Mid-South Conference Championships.
