Portsmouth, Ohio – Shawnee State men's soccer won 10 Community Trust Bank Mid-South Conference All-Academic awards on Wednesday afternoon.
Shawnee State was one of three conference schools with double digit winners this season. This year's recipients included Joe Lamont (SR/Edinburgh, Scotland), Aaron Mazurkiewicz (SO/Vincent, Ohio), Joe Nichols (SR/Canal Winchester, Ohio), Caspar Nolte (SO/Germantown, Ohio), Caleb Roof (SO/Wheelersburg, Ohio), Martyn Sayer (SR/Liverpool, England), Mauricio Solis (SR/San Jose, Costa Rica), Kazuto Sugawara (SR/Tokyo, Japan), Tristan Smith (SR/Rocky River, Ohio), and Matt Williams (SO/West Salem, Ohio).
The award is the third in a row for Tristan Smith, with Martyn Sayer, Joe Lamont, and Mauricio Solis both winning their second in a row. Joe Nichols also earned his second after winning the award in 2014. The Bears increased their number of award winners this season, matching their 2014 total and improving over the six that earned the award in 2015.
Overall, 66 players earned awards this season for the Mid-South Conference. To be eligible for the award, student-athletes must be a sophomore in academic standing and maintain a 3.25 GPA on a 4.0 scale.
Men's soccer are next in action on Friday, November 4th when they take on fourth seeded Cumberlands in the Mid-South Conference tournament first round. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30pm.
