Portsmouth, Ohio – Shawnee State men's soccer begin their postseason on Friday night, when they take on fourth seeded Cumberlands in the quarterfinals of the Mid-South Conference Tournament.
Shawnee State finished the regular season with an overall record of 5-11-1, and were 2-4-1 in the Mid-South Conference. The Bears lost their last regular season match, falling to #17 Lindsey Wilson 9-0. SSU clinched a fifth place finish in the league after drawing with Georgetown 2-2 on October 26th.
Cumberlands finished regular season play at 5-10-3, and were 3-3-1 in the Mid-South. The Patriots fell on the last day of the season to #7 Campbellsville 1-0.
Bryce Romanello (FR/Lucasville, Ohio) is the leading scorer on either team, having scored eight goals in 17 matches this season, good for eighth in the Mid-South Conference. Martyn Sayer (SR/Liverpool, England) has five goals, with Caspar Nolte (SO/Germantown, Ohio) adding four. Cumberlands has three players with three goals, Joey Ferguson, Max Aken-Tyers, and Nicklas Nancke.
Cumberlands won this year's regular season meeting, winning 3-0 in Portsmouth on October 12th. The Bears have a 1-7 all-time record against Cumberlands, with the lone win coming in 2012. Cumberlands have won the last four meetings between the two teams.
