Bowling Green, Ky. - Shawnee State men's soccer had their season come to a close on Friday night, falling 1-0 to Cumberlands in the Mid-South Conference Tournament quarterfinals.
Neither team gained much of an advantage over the other for most of the match, with fairly even possession. The lone goal of the match came at the end of the first half, when the Patriots' Zach Wallace would make an incredible run to break down the Shawnee State defense and score in the 43rd minute. Shawnee State would have several attacking chances in the second half but couldn't find an equalizer.
With the loss, Shawnee State end the season 5-12-1. Cumberlands improve to 6-10-3 and will play Campbellsville in the semifinals of the Mid-South Tournament.
With the loss, Shawnee State's season comes to an end. Bryce Romanello (FR/Lucasville, Ohio) would be the leading scorer on the season, firing in eight goals on the campaign. He along with sophomore Caspar Nolte (SO/Germantown, Ohio) were both named Mid-South Conference second team All-Conference this season. Senior midfielder Martyn Sayer (SR/Liverpool, England) was the team's second leading scorer, with five goals.
