Portsmouth, Ohio – Shawnee State volleyball open up the Mid-South Conference Tournament on Thursday afternoon, when they play #1 seed Lindsey Wilson
The Bears finished the regular season 5-24, and were 0-14 in Mid-South Conference play. SSU finished the regular season with a 3-1 loss at Campbellsville on Friday night.
Lindsey Wilson finished the regular season 28-1, had a 13-1 record in the Mid-South and won the conference regular season championship. The Blue Raiders defeated Pikeville 3-0 on Thursday, November 3rd to end the regular season.
Lauren Helbig (SR/Mansfield, Ohio) has led the way for Shawnee State all season, being a conference leader in two categories. Lauren is third in kills per set with 3.6, and fifth in hitting percentage at .281. Meanwhile, Rhyanna Day (SR/Beaver, Ohio) is fourth in the league in digs per set, averaging 4.3.
Lindsey Wilson's Grace Blomstedt is the current league leader in blocks per set, averaging 1.3. The Blue Raiders' Carolynne Silva is fifth in the conference in that category, averaging 0.9. Caitlyn Tino is averaging 5.1 digs per set, good for second in the league, while Makenzie Montano averages 10.7 assists per set. Elly Burke is a league leader in hitting percentage, sitting in fourth place at .285.
Shawnee State are 3-11 against Lindsey Wilson all-time, including losing both matches earlier this season, both by 3-0 margins. The Bears last defeated the Blue Raiders in November 2010, winning 3-0. Lindsey Wilson has won all 11 matches since then.
