Portsmouth, Ohio – Shawnee State men's basketball return to Waller Gymnasium on Tuesday night, when they host NCAA-II opponent Ashland University (Ohio).
The Bears will enter Tuesday's game with a 3-2 record after going 2-1 over this past weekend. The Bears lost on Friday against NAIA-II #9 Indiana University-East 91-81, but rebounded for a win on Saturday against Lourdes (Ohio) 66-46. The Bears then throttled OU-Chillicothe 92-63 to end the weekend.
Ashland opened their season over the weekend, compiling a 1-1 record. The Eagles defeated Indianapolis University 70-64 on Saturday, but lost to Southern Indiana 74-62 on Sunday.
Tamal Watkins (FR/Columbus, Ohio) has gotten off to a hot start in his freshman campaign for the Bears. The guard is scoring 16.8 points per game to lead Shawnee State in scoring. Jayllen Carter (JR/Portsmouth, Ohio) is averaging 16.4 points for second on the team, and big man Frederick Moore (JR/Cincinnati, Ohio) is scoring 15.4 points per game, and leads the team in rebounding with 9.2 per game.
Ashland's Ben Haraway leads the Eagles in scoring, averaging 14.5 point per game. Teddy Metzen averages 13 per game, with Adrian Cook adding 11 points per game.
Shawnee State are 0-1 all-time against Ashland. The first meeting between the two teams was last season, a 78-59 win for the Eagles on December 20th, 2015.
Tomorrow night is Green Local School Night at Shawnee State University. All students at Green Local Schools are admitted free, along with one adult admission with the presentation of a flyer handed out at the school last week.
