Portsmouth, Ohio – Shawnee State men's basketball return to play on Friday afternoon, starting the Bevo Francis Invitational Tournament at Rio Grande against Kent State-Tuscarwaras.
The Bears enter Friday's game 3-3 on the season. Shawnee State fell at home on Tuesday night to Ashland (Ohio) 73-68. Jayllen Carter (JR/Portsmouth, Ohio) led the Bears in scoring with 13 points.
Shawnee State has a 1-0 record all-time against the Golden Eagles. The Bears defeated KSU-Tuscawaras on November 1st, 2015 89-55 at Waller Gymnasium.
Jayllen Carter's 15.8 points per game leads Shawnee State in scoring on the young season. Tamal Watkins (FR/Columbus, Ohio) has added 14.8 points per game, and Fred Moore is averaging 14.3 points and 8.8 rebounds per game so far.
The game is Shawnee State's first at the Bevo Francis Invitational Tournament, hosted by the University of Rio Grande. Francis, an alumni of Rio Grande, is a member of the NAIA Hall of Fame and is known for having held the single game scoring record for any level of college basketball in the United States.
Shawnee State will play either Rio Grande or Miami-Hamilton on Saturday, with game time determined by results of Friday's games.
Tipoff between the Bears and Golden Eagles is scheduled for 4:00pm at Newt Oliver Arena.
