Portsmouth, Ohio – Shawnee State men's soccer ended their season with an act of kindness, helping out with the American Red Cross Pancake Breakfast on November 12th.
The annual event, which is hosted at the New Boston Applebee's, raises money for the Ohio River Valley Chapter of the American Red Cross. Shawnee State men's soccer athletes helped the organization by waiting tables and collecting donations.
The team used the event as part of the NAIA's Champions of Character initiative, which seeks to develop character-driven student-athletes to succeed both on the field and off of it. Men's soccer's participation in the fundraiser will help the American Red Cross provide disaster relief to stricken areas across the globe.
Head Coach Ron Goodson said, "I thought it was a fantastic way to conclude our fall season. We were able to help the local chapter of the Red Cross with their fundraising efforts. The Red Cross does a great job of helping in emergency situations and it was great to be able to assist them."
Shawnee State, the Mid-South Conference, and the NAIA are committed to the Champions of Character program. Champions of Character stresses the five core values of integrity, respect, responsibility, sportsmanship and servant leadership in each and every student-athlete, coach, and official.
