Williamsburg, Ky. - Shawnee State men's basketball fell on the road Monday night, losing to (RV) University of the Cumberlands 71-66 in Mid-South Conference action.
The Bears would lead very early but quickly fall behind, trailing by as many as 18 in the first half. The Patriots would extend the lead to 24 early in the second half, but Shawnee State would battle back. The Bears would cut the lead under double digits with under a minute to go, but could get no closer than five points.
The game saw five technical fouls, four of which were called on Shawnee State.
Corey Benton (FR/Columbus, Ohio) led Shawnee State with 18 points and was the lone Bear to score double digits on the night.
Marquis Yates led Cumberlands with 23 points, followed by Kelsley Wilkinson and Eric Duncan each with 13 points.
With the loss, Shawnee State falls to 5-5 and are 0-2 in the Mid-South Conference. Cumberlands improve to 9-2 and are 1-1 in the league.
Shawnee State are next in action on Saturday, December 3rd when they take on #2 Georgetown on the road. Tipoff is scheduled for 4:00pm.
