Sayer, a senior from Liverpool, England, played in all 18 games Shawnee State played this season, scoring five goals and grabbing two assists in the process while playing in the midfield. Lamont, a defender from Edinburgh, Scotland, also started all 18 games this season. He scored one goal and had two assists.
To be eligible for the award, student athletes must have completed two full years as a non-transfer or one year as a transfer, and must have achieved a grade point average of 3.5 or above. Sayer and Lamont both exceeded the minimum requirements for the award.
The award is Joe Lamont's second award, and Martyn Sayer's first. Shawnee State earned four scholar-athlete awards in 2015, which included Lamont, Tristan Smith (SR/Rocky River, Ohio), Mauricio Solis (SR/San Jose, Costa Rica), and Chris Wiget.
