Portsmouth, Ohio – Shawnee State men's basketball will get the Mid-South Conference Tournament underway on Friday afternoon when they play #1 seed Life at the Frankfort Convention Center.
The Bears are 9-18 on the season, and are 2-12 in the Mid-South Conference. Shawnee State ended the regular season with an 87-74 victory over Cumberland (Tenn.).
Life, who entered the NAIA Coaches' Poll on Tuesday at #20, are 19-10 and 12-2 in the Mid-South. The Running Eagles defeated Campbellsville 61-47 last Saturday. Life won their first Mid-South Conference Regular Season Championship this year.
Jayllen Carter (JR/Portsmouth, Ohio) continues to lead Shawnee State in scoring, with the Portsmouth native averaging 14.9 points per game. Frederick Moore (JR/Cincinnati, Ohio) has added in 14.2 points and a team-high 7.5 rebounds per game. Tamal Watkins (FR/Columbus, Ohio) is SSU's third leading scorer, averaging 10.2 points per game.
Life are led by Dalarian Williams, who averages 20.6 points per game.
The Running Eagles swept the season series over Shawnee State this season. Life beat the Bears in Portsmouth 87-63 on January 7th, and were again victorious at home 83-70 on February 11th. Shawnee State is 1-3 all-time against Life.
Tipoff between the Bears and Running Eagles is scheduled for 2:00pm at the Frankfort Convention Center in Frankfort, Kentucky. Due to a malfunction with the Frankfort Convention Center's electronic ticketing system, only cash will be accepted at the front gate. Tickets are $12 for adults and $7 for students and seniors.
