Portsmouth, Ohio – Shawnee State men's and women's tennis were handed a pair of road defeats over the weekend, falling to Saint Francis (Ind.) and Bethel (Ind.) 8-0 in all four matches.
Men's tennis struggled to score against both Saint Francis and Bethel, with the men not winning a single set in either match. Nick Johnson had the best luck in singles for the weekend, falling to SFU's Nathan Barger 6-2, 6-4, and to Bethel's Jacob Macri 6-2, 6-3.
SSU's women were equally stymied by the Cougars and Pilots. Shelby Hay (SO/Louisa, Kentucky) was SSU's best performer against Saint Francis, falling to Taylor Stanchin 6-4, 6-2. Adrianna Johnson (FR/Clarksville, Ohio) won the only set for the Bears over the weekend, defeating Adrienne Koppinger in the first set 7-5, but falling in the second set 6-1 and losing the tiebreaker 10-3.
With the losses, Shawnee State's men fall to 2-3 on the season and the women fall to 3-2.
Shawnee State tennis is back in action on Saturday, April 1st when they play in the Asbury University Tri-Match against Alice Lloyd and Asbury. The matches are scheduled to begin at 12:00pm.
