Columbia, Ky. – Shawnee State softball were swept on Saturday afternoon, falling to Lindsey Wilson 4-2 in game one and 7-0 in game two.
For the third straight game, Shawnee State struck first. With two outs in the top of the second, Mackenzie Riley (SO/Proctorville, Ohio) singled to left field, and Katie Wolsefer (FR/Franklin, Ohio) doubled to left to drive her in.
Lindsey Wilson would strike back in the bottom of the second with a solo home run by Amy Rogers. The Blue Raiders would take the lead in the bottom of the third when Callum Pilgrim would score on a wild throw by Kayla Koch (JR/Lucasville, Ohio).
Shawnee State would tie the game back up in the top of the fourth when Koch would make up for her error with a solo home run. However, a two-run shot by Bailey Mize would give Lindsey Wilson back the lead for good as the Bears could not muster any more runs to lose.
Casey Bryan would go seven innings for the second day in a row, allowing two runs on four hits with 10 strikeouts to get the win. McKenzie Whittaker (SO/McDermott, Ohio) would allow four runs on seven hits in three innings for the loss.
Game two would be all Lindsey Wilson from start to finish. After a scoreless first three and a half innings, Amber Foukes would get the scoring started with a solo home run in the bottom of the fourth. Pilgrim would double home Cassie Kooker in the bottom of the fifth, and would later steal home to give Lindsey Wilson a 3-0 lead.
The Blue Raiders would blow the game open in the sixth with four runs. Lauren Lett would double home Kaylee Russell, and pinch runner Madison Bryant would score on Pilgrim's sacrifice fly. Sydney Fourman would then hit a two-run homer to end the scoring.
Taylor Slade would shut down the Shawnee State offense, allowing no runs on seven hits with five strikeouts in her complete game shutout for the win. Brooke Blevins (FR/Frankfort, Ohio) would allow seven runs on 11 hits in six innings to take the loss.
The losses drop Shawnee State to 12-13 on the season, and 6-10 in the Mid-South Conference. Lindsey Wilson improve to 26-7, and are 12-0 in the league.
Shawnee State softball are back in action on Tuesday, April 4th when they hit the road for a doubleheader with (RV) Georgetown. First pitch is scheduled for 3:00pm.
