Portsmouth, Ohio – Shawnee State tennis finished the regular season on Wednesday, with both the men and women falling to Indiana University-Southeast 9-0.
Shawnee State's men were led by Nick Johnson, who fell to Jonathan James 6-1, 6-2. Johnson and Rodney Spriggs (SO/Lucasville, Ohio) were able to take a game in their doubles match against James and Chris Braun, losing 8-1 to the Grenadier duo. Zach Colley (FR/Portsmouth, Ohio) also won two games in his singles set, but fell to Brock Winchell 6-2, 6-0.
The Shawnee State women were also swept on Wednesday, with the duo of Adrianna Johnson (FR/Clarksville, Ohio) and Caleigh O'Neal (SO/Greenup, Kentucky) being the best performers. Johnson and O'Neal lost to Anne-Marie Mattox and Eryn Jochim 8-3. Megan Meyers (FR/Wheelersburg, Ohio) was SSU's best singles performer, losing to Mattox 6-1, 6-2.
The losses drop both Shawnee State team's records to 3-10 on the season. IU-Southeast's men improved to 11-10, and the women to 10-8.
Shawnee State tennis is back in action this weekend, when both teams will head to Bowling Green, Kentucky for the Mid-South Conference Tournament. The seventh-seeded Shawnee State men will take on second seed Campbellsville on Sunday at 10:00am, while the sixth seeded SSU women will take on three seed Campbellsville on Sunday at 4:00pm. The tournament was moved back to Sunday/Monday from Friday/Saturday due to impending weather in the Bowling Green area over the weekend.
