Bowling Green, Ky. – Shawnee State fell in their second game of the Mid-South Conference on Friday, losing to top seed Lindsey Wilson 3-1.
The Blue Raiders would strike first, putting up two runs in the bottom of the second. With two outs, Abby Whelan and Lauren Lett would hit back-to-back singles to put runners on first and second. Cassie Kooker would then hit a double to drive both Whelan and Lett in. Lindsey Wilson would load the bases against Brooke Blevins (FR/Frankfort, Ohio), but the freshman would get out of the inning to keep the score 2-0.
The Bears would strike back in the top of the third, when Katie Wolsefer (FR/Franklin, Ohio) would hit a solo home run. However, Lindsey Wilson starter Casey Bryan would hold the Bears in check for the rest of the afternoon, with Shawnee State unable to score again. Lindsey Wilson would add a run in the bottom of the fourth on a Sydney Fourman RBI single to give the Blue Raiders the winning margin.
Bryan would throw all seven innings for Lindsey Wilson, allowing only one run on two hits and striking out 12 to get the win. Brooke Blevins would allow three runs on nine hits in five innings to get hit with the loss.
Shawnee State falls to 24-23 on the season with the loss, and drops into the loser's bracket in the double elimination tournament. Lindsey Wilson improves to 38-9.
Shawnee State will play an elimination game to start Saturday's tournament action against third seeded Georgetown at 12:00pm Eastern/11:00am Central.
