Portsmouth, Ohio – Derek Moore (SR/Wheelersburg, Ohio) was named the Mid-South Conference Champions of Character award winner on Thursday morning, while Tyler Straley (JR/Uniontown, Ohio) was named Second Team All-Mid-South Conference and Brandon Reaman (SR/Dayton, Ohio) won a Mid-South Conference Gold Glove.
Moore, a senior pitcher from Wheelersburg, Ohio, won his second consecutive MSC Champions of Character award for his work in the community and his performance both on and off the field.
Moore is also the first repeat winner in both Shawnee State and Mid-South Conference history. The Champions of Character award has been given out every year since 2010. Moore is the third player to have won the award, having joined Cory Pallutch in 2011 and Aaron Suydam in 2013 last year.
Tyler Straley was also named Second Team All-Mid-South Conference on Wednesday. Straley, a junior from Uniontown, Ohio, is in his first year at Shawnee State after transferring from Lakeland Community College. Straley has had a good first season for the Bears, with a 3-3 record. In 53.1 innings pitched, Straley has a 3.54 ERA and 34 strikeouts on the year.
Brandon Reaman was named a Gold Glove recipient for the 2017 season. Reaman, a senior from Dayton, Ohio, has not committed an error this season in 109 chances, and has three outfield assists to his credit. Reaman in one of only four players in the Mid-South Conference to have not committed an error this season.
