Steubenville, Ohio – Shawnee State Men's Tennis dropped their first match of the fall on Wednesday evening losing 9-0 to Franciscan University in Steubenville (Ohio).
The Bears struggled to get the upper hand throughout the match that included three sets of doubles and six single matches. In the doubles, it was fellow Bears Nicholas Johnson and Zach Colley that would drop the match 8-2 to Jarek Sulak and John Gallagher. In the second doubles match SSU's CJ Burke and Nate Hinze would be shut out 8-0. The story remained the same in the final doubles match as Bears Shane Hitchens and Caleb Moore managed 2 scores and lost 8-2.
In the singles matches, the struggles for the Bears continued as the first two matches between SSU's Nick Johnson and Franciscan's Jake Haffner would end in Johnson's defeat 6-3 and 6-2. The second doubles match would end SSU's chance at winning the match as Franciscan University's Jon Walmach would defeat SSU's Zach Colley in two straight shutouts. The rest of the singles competitions would also fall in favor of the Barons who shut out the bears.
After the loss, Shawnee State opens the fall season at 0-1. The Franciscan University Barons improve to 2-1.
The Bears will be back in action September 18th as they will travel to Cincinnati to face Mount Saint Joseph University in a match that is set for 3:30pm.
