Portsmouth, OH – Shawnee State University cross country was in action over the weekend at both the Iona Meet of Champions and the Cedarville Friendship invitational.
Both the men's and women's teams competed at the Iona Meet of Champions. The women's team finished second overall behind Johns Hopkins in the 5K race with Brooke Smith leading the Bears finishing eighth out of a total of 40 runners with a time of 19:31.5. SSU's Alyssa Taylor and Anna Havranek finished 11th and 12th overall rounding out the top three for the Bears. The men's team also finished second overall behind Johns Hopkins. Seth Farmer and Parker Blain delivered standout performances for the Bears finishing 8th and 9th, Farmer had the best time for the Bears finishing with a time of 27:30.9.
The men's team competed in the 27th annual Cedarville University Friendship CC Invitational finishing 8th overall in the meet that included 12 schools. Jacob Kemper had the best time for the Bears at 27:34.9 finishing 35th overall out of 148 total runners. Rounding out the top three was Hunter Bennington who finished 40th with a time of 27:49.0 and Ty Reeher who finished 50th with a time of 28:11.9.
Cross country will take a week off before returning to action the weekend of September 29-30th when they will compete in the All-Ohio Championships and the Greater Louisville Classic.
