Portsmouth, Ohio – Shawnee State Women's soccer star Jenny Campbell (SR/Chillicothe, Ohio) was named the Mid-South Conference offensive player of the week last week.
Campbell returned to the starting lineup on Tuesday, accounting for an incredible four goals in the Bears 9-5 victory over Cincinnati Christian. Jenny would score on a Maddie Woodard (SR/Camden, Ohio) assist for her first goal of the game. Returning the favor, Campbell assisted Maddie Woodard in the 15th minute for another SSU goal. Campbell continued to dominate the first period, striking twice more to complete her hat trick before the half. Woodard would again find Campbell in the second half with a pass that led to Jenny's fourth goal of the evening.
The Bears went on the road to play Ohio Christian later in the week in a game that resulted in a 4-3 win for the Bears in overtime. Jenny Campbell scored a crucial goal with Shawnee down 3-1 in the second half of the game, igniting the Bears to get a late equalizer to send the game to overtime, and to get the winning goal in overtime.
Campbell missed much of the start to Shawnee State's season due to a concussion. Her five goals last week have buoyed her total to six already on the year, only one fewer than Maddie Woodard's team-high seven. Campbell's return should help Shawnee State continue their best start since 2013, with the Bears currently sitting at 6-1-1.
Shawnee State Women's Soccer have won four straight and look to continue their streak at home in their first conference match against Lindsey Wilson (10) on September 26. Tuesday's match is set to begin at 5:00 pm.
