Portsmouth, Ohio – Shawnee State volleyball lost their third straight on Tuesday night, falling to #18 Georgetown 3-0 (25-15, 25-16, 25-18).
Shawnee State fell behind early in set one, going down 10-3 to the Tigers. SSU would not be able to rally back in the set, falling 25-15 in the first. Set two would see SSU go up 7-4 early, but a Georgetown rally would find them up 10-9, and after trading points the Tigers would win 13 of the last 16 points to win the set.
The third set would start much like the second, with SSU taking an early lead and Georgetown rallying. The Tigers would again close the set well, scoring 12 of the last 17 points to win the third 25-18 and the match 3-0.
Christina Shelton (SR/Blue Creek, Ohio), Brianna Wiget (SR/Piketon, Ohio) and Carson Roney (SO/Waverly, Ohio) each had five kills to lead SSU's attack. Deanna Smith (SR/Riverview, MI) had 19 assists and Stacia Martin (SR/Indianapolis, Indiana) added 14 digs. Jessica Tapp had a game-high 15 kills to lead Georgetown, with Jenny Howell adding 10 for the Tigers.
The loss drops Shawnee State's record to 6-11 on the year, with the Bears falling to 1-4 in the Mid-South Conference. Georgetown improves to 9-1 and 4-1 in the league.
Shawnee State returns to action on Tuesday, October 3 when they travel to Williamsburg to take on University of the Cumberlands (Ky.). First serve is set for 6:00pm.
