Portsmouth, Ohio – Shawnee State men's soccer got two goals from Alek Blevins (FR/South Webster, Ohio) and Caspar Nolte (JR/Germantown, Ohio) as they raced to an 8-1 win over Cincinnati-Clermont (Ohio).
Shawnee State would take the lead in the 18th minute as Alek Blevins would finish a through ball from Shane Zimmerman (FR/South Webster, Ohio) to give SSU a 1-0 lead. Cincinnati-Clermont would immediately respond, as a scramble in the box would see the Bears unable to clear the ball and Jalen Hjelmeng finishing to tie the game at 1-1 in the 20th minute.
Shawnee State would regain their lead before halftime. Caspar Nolte would receive a back heel pass from Bryce Romanello (SO/Lucasville, Ohio), and finish over Cougar goalkeeper Jared Leyland to give SSU a 2-1 advantage in the 22nd minute, which they would preserve to halftime.
The floodgates would open in the second half as SSU would put six past the Cougars defense. Blevins would get his second in the 52nd minute, and would assist on Shane Zimmerman's goal in the 60th minute. Mitchell Patchett (FR/Dublin, Ohio) would fire home on a scramble in the 62nd minute, and Bryce Romanello would link up to assist Andrew Nimely (JR/Groveport, Ohio) in the 68th minute. Nolte would get his second goal in the 73rd minute, and Ian Tolle (FR/Minford, Ohio) would end the scoring on a James White (FR/Waverly, Ohio) corner in the 88th minute to seal the SSU win.
The win improves Shawnee State's record to 2-10-0 on the year. Cincinnati-Clermont falls to 2-9-0.
Shawnee State returns to action on Wednesday, October 4 when they host Life University in a Mid-South Conference clash. Kickoff is set for 8:00pm.
