Shawnee State (31-23, 11-10) dropped their final regular season game against the visiting Patriots of Cumberlands (24-25, 8-13) as the Patriots took the series finale. The game marked the last game for eight seniors which included Quentin Everman, Cody Morrison, Alex Taku, Carter Bledsoe, Austin Dunfee, AJ Gomez, Danny Gesick and Ryan Burnett.
The University of Cumberlands came out in the first inning and scored the ballgames first run against senior starting pitcher Carter Bledsoe (Tulsa, OK).
The Patriots scored one run on three hits as Cumberlands strung together three straight hits in the inning. After a sacrifice fly ball, Bledsoe struck out a batter to get out of a jam in the first inning.
The Bears were shut down through the first four innings mustarding out only two hits as they trailed 1-0.
However, on their final home stand and for some their final game at Branch Rickey Park, it was the senior Quentin Everman (Galloway, OH), who finished going 2-for-4 with an RBI, singled to right field for an RBI single. Cody Spires (Lancaster, OH), who scored on the single, reached on an infield single and advanced to second on a throwing error.
The hit tied the game at 1-1 in the bottom of the fifth as what became a pitcher's duel between Bledsoe and the Patriots Clint Davis.
Bledsoe allowed only one hit from the second inning until the seventh inning retiring 12 of the last 13 batters until Blake Debacker doubled to left field. He then advanced to third on a balk from Bledsoe being the first threat to score since the first inning.
With one out and Debacker on third base a sharp ground ball was hit to the senior Cody Morrison. Morrison fielded the ball and with the runner headed home threw a strike to Colin Keim (Clinton, OH) to prevent the go ahead run from scoring.
Bledsoe (4-7) pitched his final game at Branch Rickey Park by throwing 7 and 2/3 innings allowing one run on eight hits and striking out four batters in an all-out effort.
Cumberlands threatened again in the top of the ninth with runners on third and first against reliever Jordan Williams (Uniontown, OH). With the go ahead run on third once again for the Patriots a squeeze bunt was called upon.
The bunt was laid down however the runner hesitated only to have Williams overthrow Morrison allowing the go ahead run to score. With runners threatening on second and third Williams got out of the jam only allowing one run.
Trailing 2-1 in the bottom of the ninth, Adam Wamsley (Wheelersburg, OH) lead off the inning with a single and advanced to second on a wild pitch. With the tying run 180 feet away, senior AJ Gomez (Spring, TX) pinched hit. With one out Gomez walked to put runners on second and first
