Shawnee State dropped their opener to the Patriots of St. Catharine's in the Mid-South Conference tournament. The Patriots scored eight runs over the final four innings to overcoming a 2-0 deficit as the sixth-seeded St. Catharine's beat the Bears 8-2.

The Bears opened the game scoring twice in the bottom of the third inning. Nikki Nance (Proctorville, OH) started the inning by getting hit by a pitch. Two batters later first team All-Conference member Katy Bender (Canal Winchester, OH) doubled to left. With runners on second and third, Nance scored on a wild pitch for the game's first run.

Ericka Leighty (South Point, OH) singled with two outs scoring Bender from third base to extend Shawnee State's lead to 2-0.

However, the Patriots scored eight runs over the final four innings to stun the Bears in the opening game.
