Walnut Ridge standout Kai Turner has signed a letter of intent to continue his basketball career at Shawnee State University. Turner started at forward for the Scots this year, finishing with a 23-2 record, including an undefeated regular season. Kai is a three-year letter winner for the Scots who averaged 12 points and nine rebounds his senior year. He is a 6-7 athletic forward, who will immediately add an inside presence for the Bears.
"We are extremely excited about adding Kai to our basketball family," states Bears' Head Coach Jeff Hamilton. "He played for Coach Bates at Walnut Ridge and was an integral part of their tremendous success the past couple of seasons. I have confidence that Kai will have an immediate impact in our program. He plays with fantastic energy and enthusiasm with the skill set to play multiple positions. We can't wait to get him to campus and start working with this super young man."
Turner picked SSU because it, "Feels like a home away from home." He meshed very well with the current players and his versatility should allow him to enjoy great success in the Bear's system. He joins other Columbus City League players: Ian Nixson (Northland), Andrew and Leo Devlin (Beechcroft) on the Shawnee State roster.
While at Walnut Ridge, Turner also lettered two years in football.
