CEDARVILLE, Ohio – Starting the fall portion of its 2012 schedule against an NCAA DII team, tennis dropped a tough match at Cedarville, 9-0. The host Lady Jackets captured all three doubles matches very quickly, but the Bears rebounded with some strong performances in singles play.
Senior Ashley O'Neill played the team's closest set in singles on the afternoon. She was right in her opening set at No. 2 but would eventually fall, 6-4. She also had the most successful doubles match for the visitors as she and senior teammate Ashley Fischer took two games at No. 2 doubles.
At No. 3 and No. 4 singles, Fischer and Shelbie Wulfekamp each captured three games in their first matches of the season. Junior Kyra Keeton opened the season at No. 1 in the team's first match.
Shawnee State will now be back in action this weekend at the Steven A. Hunter Tournament in Portsmouth. Several of those matches will be played on the Dr. William E. Daehler Tennis Center courts. That tournament will get underway on Saturday with the finals concluding on Sunday.
