BEREA, Ky. – Women's tennis evenly split the four singles matches and two doubles matches that were contested Thursday afternoon at Berea. However, walkover wins at No. 5 and 6 singles and No. 3 doubles gave Berea the additional three points that it needed to come out with the 6-3 win.

Team Ashley was on a roll as both Ashley Fischer and Ashley O'Neill won their respective singles matches and teamed up to win No. 2 doubles. At No. 2 doubles, the duo took eight of the 10 games played for the easy victory. At No. 3 singles, Fischer allowed just three games to her opponent over the two sets, winning 6-2, 6-1.

O'Neill jumped out to the early lead in her match at No. 3 with a 6-4 win in the opening set, but her opponent would respond and tie the match with a 6-3 win in the second. Playing a 10-point tiebreak, O'Neill picked up the win in a hard-fought 10-8 winner. Shelbie Wulfekamp also forced a third set at No. 4 singles with a 6-3 win in the second after dropping a 6-4 opening set. However, her bid for the win would be denied by a second 6-4 loss in the third set. She teamed up with Kyra Keeton (who played both No. 1 singles and doubles.), but the pairing could not duplicate their success from the Steven A. Hunter Tournament.

The Bears will host their only home dual of the fall season in a week on Friday, October 5 against Midway College. SSU will play the majority of its schedule during the spring season.
