PORTSMOUTH – Shawnee State men's soccer has announced its first recruit for the upcoming 2013 season. Scott Adkins of Valley High School in Lucasville, Ohio recently signed his Letter of Intent to continue his soccer career with the Bears. This past fall, Adkins played goalie for his squad that advanced all the way to the Southern Ohio Conference and Division III Southeast District Championship games. That team finished with an overall record of 15-2-1.
"I chose to come to Shawnee State to play soccer because I've heard nothing but great things about the program. Once the coaches and myself really got to know each other, I realized that Shawnee was the place for me," explained Adkins.
All of Adkins' success this past season came despite the fact that he was in just his first year playing soccer. Prior to joining the soccer team for his season season, Adkins was also a four-year member of the Valley tennis team. In his first soccer season, Adkins made 160 saves and stopped 85-percent of the shots that he faced.
He was named first-team All-Southeast District III. Adkins was also named second-team All-Southern Ohio Conference. He was also selected to play in the Southeast District Championship Game.
"Scott is a great addition to our program. He has good size and a lot of raw talent." stated Head Coach Ron Goodson. "I think he will add depth to our goalkeepers and will help make our program stronger."
In addition to his on-field accomplishments, Adkins was also a member of the National Honor Society and Pep Club. He was also Class Treasurer and was recognized with the DAR Good Citizen Award. Adkins also participated in the 2012 Buckeye Boys State.
