GEORGETOWN, Ky. – The tough weekend road trip for women's tennis continued into Monday as the Bears were unable to earn a point at Georgetown, falling 9-0. The Tigers were a team receiving votes in the latest NAIA Coaches' Top 25 Poll.
The day started off with three straight 8-0 losses in the doubles competition to put SSU in an early 3-0 hole and things would not get much better in singles.
Playing at No. 3, Ashley Fischer played the tightest set of the afternoon but would ultimately fall 6-3 in her opening set and dropped the match with a 6-0 loss in the second set. Shelbie Wulfekamp (No. 4) was the only other SSU player to earn a game on the afternoon. She would take her game in the opening set but that would be the final she won in her match. At Nos. 1, 2, 5 and 6, the Bears went down 6-0 in every set.
Tennis will look to rebound this Friday with their first non-conference match of the spring at Midway. That match will get underway at 4 p.m. SSU will be looking to avenge a 6-3 exhibition loss from the fall when they did not have a full squad in this upcoming match.
