Cheerleading

Try-outs for 2012-2013

A second cheer tryout and dance team tryouts will be held on August 24 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and August 25 from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. in Waller Gymnasium. 

Dance team candidates must prepare a 45 second to 1 minute dance. 

Candidates must bring a recent photograph; dress appropriately in shorts, form fitting shirt, and cheerleading shoes.

A cheer and a chant will be taught to all candidates during the tryout process.  Successful candidates will have strong motions, jumps, voice projection, basic tumbling skills, and stunt experience. 

Incoming Freshmen are required to meet two of the three following academic requirements: 1.) Minimum 2.0 GPA 2.) Must graduate in top 1/2 of class 3.) Minimum score of 18 on ACT. 

Current SSU students and transfer students are required to meet the following academic requirements: 1.) Minimum 2.0 GPA 2.) Must have passed a minimum of 12 credit hours for each semester attended.  

Purpose of Shawnee State Cheerleading

1.) To promote and uphold school spirit;
2.) To develop a sense of good sportsmanship;
3.) To promote crowd involvement at SSU Sporting events;
4.) To uphold the highest personal and cheerleading standards.
