Cheerleading Tryouts:

Tryouts for the 2014-15 SSU Cheerleading Squad will be held Friday, August 22, 2014 from 6 to 8 p.m. and Saturday, August 23, 2014 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Frank and Janis Waller Gymnasium located in the Rhodes Athletic Center. Candidates must bring a recent photograph and dress appropriately in shorts, form fitting shirt and cheerleading shoes. You must attend both sessions to be eligible for the squad.

A cheer and a chant will be taught to all candidates during the tryout process. Successful candidates will have sharp motions, strong jumps and excellent voice projection. There are no specific requirements for tumbling or stunting skills. However, the addition of these skills is a definite asset and will be a factor in the selection of the squad.

In addition, I will look for candidates with the ability to work with and as a team, positive attitudes, and energetic personalities.

Cheerleading at SSU is a varsity sport. Therefore, incoming freshmen candidates must meet two out of the following three requirements:

· Minimum cumulative GPA of 2.0

· Minimum ACT score of 18

· Graduate in the top one-half of your class

Current SSU students and transfer students must have a minimum 2.0 GPA and a minimum of 12 passing credits for each semester completed.

Dance Team Tryouts

Tryouts for the Dance Team will be held September 6, 2013 from 6 to 8 pm and September 7, 2013 from 9 am to 1 pm. The tryout will be held in the Vern Riffe Center for the Arts, Room 319.

Candidates must bring a recent photograph and dress appropriately in shorts, form fitting shirt, and proper shoes. You must attend both sessions to be eligible for the team.

Two dances in two different styles will be taught to all candidates during the tryout process. A short technique clinic will also be conducted during this process to give you an opportunity to demonstrate leaps and turns.

You are required to prepare original choreography at least one minute in length in the dance style of your choice.

Successful candidates will be able to demonstrate an ability to learn choreography quickly, originality, and proper technique execution.
