[Baseball] Baseball Announces Two Upcoming Camps

PORTSMOUTH – Shawnee State Baseball Coach Ted Tom is pleased to announce two upcoming camps. Sunday, May 19 will be the date for the team's sixth annual Spring Prospect Showcase. On June 3-5, the team will be hosting a Youth Baseball Camp.

PORTSMOUTH – Head Coach Robin Hagen-Smith's legendary career is coming to a close at the end of June with the announcement of her retirement after 30 years of coaching. However, before that date she announced one final signing with several ties to Shawnee State as Notre Dame High School's Jen Arnzen has signed her Letter of Intent to continue her career with the Bears this coming fall.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – With classes and finals wrapped up for the spring semester, Shawnee State's track & field team sent just 10 members combined between both of its men's and women's teams to the Louisville Cardinal Twilight Classic. Despite the shortened list of competitors, there were several highlights for the Bears in their final meet before the NAIA Championships as three members bested their seed times.

[Men's Soccer] Men's Soccer to Host Goalkeeper Camp on May 13

PORTSMOUTH – Shawnee State men's soccer is hosting a Goalkeeper Camp on Monday, May 13. The camp will run from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. and is open to children ages 12 – 18. The camp will be conducted on the Shawnee Turf located on the campus of Shawnee State University and home of the men's soccer team. Cost of the camp will be $30 per individual.

PORTSMOUTH – Aaron Suydam has been named the Mid-South Conference Champions of Character recipient for baseball. The award, which is voted on by the conference athletic directors, is given to one student-athlete who displays academic and athletic achievement, campus and community leadership, future ambition and demonstration of the five core character values of the NAIA.

[Men's Golf] Golf Wraps up Season with Baron Invitational Championship

LIMA, Ohio – Golf finished off its 2013 spring season at the OSU-Lima Tournament in grand fashion as the Bears posted their best team score of the entire season by firing a 293 in the 43rd Annual Baron Invitational. This tournament is the longest running tournament within the state of Ohio. This marks the second straight year that SSU has captured this tournament title. The Bears bested the field by 19 strokes as Akron-Wayne finished a distant second with a score of 312 in the 11-team field.

KINGSPORT, Tenn. – Softball had six players named to the All-Mid-South Conference team as announced at the conference banquet. The six recipients is the most the team has earned since joining the Mid-South Conference in 2011. Allie Chapman was the Bears only representative on the first team while Holly Brabson, Hannah Dittoe, Ericka Leighty, Ali Thompson and Kirsti Yates earned second-team All-MSC honors.

PORTSMOUTH – Softball placed five of its members on the Academic All-MSC team as announced at the conference banquet. To be eligible for this honor, a student-athlete must be at least a sophomore and have a cumulative GPA of 3.25 or higher.

[Softball] Softball Season Ends on Walk-Off Campbellsville Win, 4-3

KINGSPORT – Shawnee State softball battled up until the very final out, scoring three runs in their final at-bats to tie the game in the top of the seventh before Campbellsville would ultimately come back with a walk-off victory in the bottom half of the inning. With the victory, the Tigers (39-14) will continue on in the elimination portion of the Mid-South Conference Tournament while the Bears (25-16) saw their season come to a crushing end.

KINGSPORT, Tenn. - Sunday's softball games at the MSC Tournament have been rained out. The Bears will now play Campbellsville at 10 a.m. Monday in their second elimination game of the tournament. SSU will have to win three straight games on Monday to make it to the championship game.

WILLIAMSBURG, Ky. – Men's track & field posted its best finish in program history as the Bears scored 99 points to place fourth overall in the team Standings at the Mid-South Conference Championship. The Bears also claimed two event titles while finishing second in four other events and third yet three more times.

WILLIAMSBURG, Ky. – Women's track & field posted its best-ever performance at the Mid-South Championships with a sixth place finish in the team standings. The Bears scored 76 points over the two-day meet. Although they were unable to pick up the top honor in any event, there were several near misses as seven different times the Bears posted top-three finishes in an event.

[Softball] Softball Advances to Day 2 with 10-2 victory over Pikeville

KINGSPORT, Tenn. – Softball kept its season alive with a run-rule victory of their own Thursday afternoon against eighth-seeded Pikeville (20-26). The 10-2 victory lets the Bears advance to day two of the Mid-South Conference Tournament where they will meet the loser of second-seeded Campbellsville and sixth-seeded Cumberland. The Bears' next game will take place at 10 a.m. on Sunday.
