[Baseball] Baseball Announces Two Upcoming Camps

PORTSMOUTH – Shawnee State Baseball Coach Ted Tom is pleased to announce two upcoming camps. Sunday, May 19 will be the date for the team's sixth annual Spring Prospect Showcase. On June 3-5, the team will be hosting a Youth Baseball Camp.

PORTSMOUTH – Aaron Suydam has been named the Mid-South Conference Champions of Character recipient for baseball. The award, which is voted on by the conference athletic directors, is given to one student-athlete who displays academic and athletic achievement, campus and community leadership, future ambition and demonstration of the five core character values of the NAIA.

KINGSPORT, Tenn. – Seniors Colin Keim and Jordan Williams were each named second-team All-Mid-South Conference selections at the conference banquet. For Keim, who was named as a catcher to the team, the honor marks the second straight season he has earned second-team honors. Williams, honored as a relief pitcher, was a first-time recipient of all-conference accolades.

PORTSMOUTH – Four members of the Shawnee State baseball team have been named to the Mid-South Conference All-Academic Team. To be eligible for this honor, a student-athlete must be at least a sophomore and have a cumulative GPA of 3.25 or higher.

KINGSPORT, Tenn. – Mistakes seem to be magnified when competing in the postseason regardless of the sport. The Shawnee State baseball team learned that lesson the hard way Friday morning in its Mid-South Conference elimination game against Rio Grande. Three unearned runs, which were a direct result of three errors in the field, coupled with a complete game shutout from the RedStorm's Ryan Robertson, all led to a 3-0 victory for Rio Grande and the end of the season for the Bears.

KINGSPORT, Tenn. – Shawnee State's Cody Strayer and Cumberland's Kevin T. Greene started the Mid-South Conference Baseball Tournament off with a pitcher's duel. Early runs would prove to be the difference as the top-seeded Bulldogs (38-15-1) edged out the Bears (29-27), 3-1. The Bears will now look to keep their season alive Friday morning against Rio Grande at 10 a.m.

PORTSMOUTH – Baseball will open the Mid-South Conference Tournament Thursday morning at 10 a.m. vs. Cumberland University. The Bears locked down the eighth and final playoff spot by winning the final weekend series of the season and will take on the regular season MSC Champion in the opening round. The Bulldogs (37-15-1, 19-2 MSC) are ranked in the No. 11 in the most recent NAIA Poll.

DAYTON, Ohio – Playing its final regular season game of the year in anticipation of this weekend's Mid-South Conference Tournament, baseball was downed by Division I Wright State, 12-1. The Bears (29-26) held the Raiders (18-18) off the board in the first two innings before the hosts exploded for all 12 of their runs over the next three innings.

PORTSMOUTH – The Shawnee State baseball team earned a split of its doubleheader with St. Catharine College at Branch Rickey Park on senior day. The Bears (29-25, 9-15) got a strong pitching performance from Calvin Sluberski and got key contributions from their seniors in a hard-fought game one victory, 2-1. The Patriots (36-18, 10-11) took the third and final game of the series, 4-2, over Shawnee State.

PORTSMOUTH – The Shawnee State baseball team defeated the St. Catharine Patriots Friday afternoon at Branch Rickey Park, 10-3. The Bears (28-24, 8-14) got a strong effort from the entire team as Cody Strayer set the tone, pitching his second complete game of the season.

PIKEVILLE, Ky. – The Shawnee State baseball team earned a split of its doubleheader with the University of Pikeville on Saturday afternoon at LeMaster Field. The Bears (26-24, 7-14) salvaged the day with a 12-4 drubbing in game two, thanks to a complete game by pitcher Zak Esposito and 17 hits by the Bears offense. The Bears of Pikeville (17-22-1, 6-12) took the first game, 8-2, over Shawnee State.
